"After previously targeting a mid-2017 groundbreaking for his then-$18 million hotel project, local businessman and developer Mark Cleveland changed directions and had The Architect Workshop and Tuck-Hinton, both locally based, compete to design the hotel structure for his site, which is bordered by Lafayette Street, Ash/Division streets, and Fourth Avenue South.

The contest approach was distinctive — much like the boutique hotel building is expected be. It offered 10 metrics, with each one worth between five and 20 points.
